Using Microcurrent Devices in Kbeauty Routines - Foreo Bear™ Review

I’m not new to microcurrent devices - I bought my first one years ago and have been using it fairly regularly, with a break during pregnancy. It was always somewhat of a chore, but I muscled through for the benefits.

Recently, I reached out to Foreo in hopes of trying their Bear™ device - a more modern, sleek-looking gadget that offers not only microcurrent but also T-Sonic™ massage. The Bear promises to tone 65+ muscles of the face and neck for a more youthful appearance and an improved look of fine lines and sagging. It’s available on the Foreo website and Amazon (sold by Foreo).

The device can be used by itself or with a Foreo app that will guide you through several potential routines (great when you are just starting and learning what to do).

If you are a fan of a 10-step kbeauty routine like I am, you may be wondering how to incorporate a microcurrent device into your beauty regimen. It confused me as well at first, because brands do not provide instructions beyond cleanse - apply serum - use the device.

The biggest thing to consider is that anything applied to the skin before using the Bear has to be oil free. Oils interfere with the microcurrent technology. I usually do one of the following two things.

Method 1:

  • Cleanse the face (I double cleanse - oil first, then foam)

  • Apply a thick layer of water-based aloe gel (I like the Saem)

  • Use the microcurrent device

  • Rinse off the gel (these are quite inexpensive, so I don’t mind doing this)

  • Do your normal post-cleanse routine, starting with toner

Method 2:

  • Cleanse (again, I double cleanse since I usually do microcurrent at night. In the mornings, just a water-based cleanser is sufficient)

  • Apply toners / essences - make sure they are water based and do not contain oils

  • Apply a serum - any water-based serum will work. Foreo makes its own, available here. I have also used Phykology and others - choose something within your budget

  • Enjoy the microcurrent treatment

I used the first way for years, but have been experimenting with method 2 recently and liking that as well.

Foreo has a nifty app that will guide you through several easy to follow routines. You can also use the device without the app. There are levels of intensity for the microcurrent and an option to turn off the pulsations (but those are the best part).

My impressions - Foreo Bear™

If both of my microcurrent devices (NuFace and Foreo) spontaneously combusted today, I would repurchase the Foreo in a heartbeat. It has a lighter, smaller, more elegant design that’s a pleasure to use. I love the silicone casing and the fact that the bear is completely waterproof. I also adore the massage function - it’s very relaxing. I used to see microcurrent as a chore, something you do for the results and not the experience, but that’s not the case with the Bear. The pulsations are relaxing and feel great - they unwind my tensed up muscles, especially on the forehead, and help everything look more relaxed and smooth.

I see noticeable results in a few areas - a more defined jawline, lifted hooded eyes (I don’t use the device on the eyes, but treating the forehead helps lift everything under the brow too), and an overall refreshed and rejuvenated appearance. If I weren’t so sleepy and lazy in the mornings, I would start my day with the treatment as well to look and feel my best.

The Foreo Serum Serum Serum works quite well with the device. It has a thicker consistency which stays on the skin longer than more watery formulas, allowing for a comfortable experience with the Bear. I haven’t had it long enough to speak of any long term results, but I like the application process and the elegant glass packaging. It also does a good job softening and plumping the skin. Once sealed with moisturizer at the end of my evening routine, it leaves no stickiness behind which is lovely.

It’s only October, but I already know that the Foreo Bear™ has secured its place on my 2021 Favorites list. If you haven’t tried it, it’s definitely worth considering.
