TOCOBO Cotton Soft Sun Stick SPF50+ PA++++ Review

Every so often, a product seems to permeate social media and show up everywhere - all over my IG feed, YouTube suggestions, and TikTok FYP. Tocobo Cotton Soft Sun Stick is one of those products. I saw it everywhere, received it as PR from Stylevana, and then won another one in a giveaway from StyleKorean / James Welsh. I couldn’t control my curiosity and started testing almost right away.

This is a cruelty free, vegan sun stick that promises to moisturize, calm, and control excess sebum. It’s available on Amazon, YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT), Stylevana (code INF10KBH), Olive Young (code KBHOBBIT77), and StyleKorean.

How to use

  • Glide over areas exposed to the sun

  • Can be used on the face and body

  • Reapply as needed

The finish is cotton-like - matte but not drying. I do not notice a white cast. There’s a faint, pleasant smell that doesn’t last long - I only pick it up when holding the sun stick directly to my nose.

My impressions

I love a good SPF stick to use on kids or to reapply. I prefer a good layer of regular sunscreen as a base, but using sunsticks throughout the day is awesome to keep the protection going.

My kids are resistant to liquid sunscreens (little people have no patience!), but will tolerate sun sticks much better. If we are going to be out a lot, or are heading to the beach, then I push the issue and insist on more traditional formulas to really get into the nooks and crannies. For regular daily life of running from the car to the grocery store, sun sticks are better than nothing.

I’m enjoying this Tocobo sunscreen. The finish is my ideal one - not dewy but not drying. Reapplying doesn’t seem to affect makeup, but I also don’t wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis. I’m not sure what would happen if I kept using this over and over throughout the day - I think eventually it would cause the feeling of build up. With one or two uses, I feel a bit of a layer on my skin, but it’s not unpleasant and is completely invisible. Right now, I use Tocobo twice a day maximum (before driving home from work and if I decide to go for a walk). I also don’t know how this performs in hot weather or with sweating. I have two of these, so I should be able to test it this summer as well. We are also planning a tropical getaway fairly soon, and I will likely take this with me for quick reapplications.

Overall, my initial impressions are positive. I still prefer Scinic’s sun stick, because that one leaves absolutely no feeling of residue or a “layer” on the skin, and I already know it works awesome even during summer hikes, because I’ve tested it thoroughly. But Tocobo is also a worthy option with a lot of potential.
