If you are anything like me, you’ve seen countless TikToks and IG reels showing a seemingly miraculous jelly mask that starts out white and then goes clear. Influencers ooh and aah at the fantastic results while reminding you to click their link to score your very own magic mask. I’m not immune to FOMO (fear of missing out), so I ended up getting a pack of these to try.
SUNGBOON EDITOR masks come in four types. I chose the most popular Anti Wrinkle Lifting, available on Amazon and YesStyle (affiliate reward code KBHOBBIT). It promises to rejuvenate saggy skin, hydrate, and improve elasticity.
How to use
Apply to clean skin after toner
Remove after 3-4 hours
Sungboon editor masks start out wet and slimy (not in a terrible way), then warm up / mold to the skin and even shrink slightly. My eyebrows are under the mask at first, but always end up poking through the eye openings by the end. The masks are pretty comfortable other than any stray hairs will stick to them immediately.
My impressions
Tiktok stars leave this mask on overnight. I tried that one time and it didn’t go well for me - I cannot sleep with something like that on my face. I left most of the masks on for an hour or so, except for the one time when I went for several hours, which caused unexpected irritation / redness / stinging for the 12 hours after removal. Short lived but still unpleasant. I might be the only one with that reaction, but I thought it was still worth mentioning.
Here’s the deal - I do not fault any of the baby influencers for being impressed. I was just as impressed with my first hydrogel mask, except for me that was 5+ years ago and the brand was Dr.Jart. Their recommendation was to leave the mask on for 40 minutes, which is ideal for my skin and schedule. Oh, and Dr. Jart masks have a color to them, so it’s much harder to see a cool change of the mask going “clear” after a while.
Sungboon editor masks do a good job hydrating and plumping the skin, temporarily reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It’s not a bad product to use before a special occasion or a photoshoot. It’s not financially sustainable (at least for me) to use them as a part of my regular skincare routine. If you are dying to try them for yourself - go for it. Maybe don’t go for 4+ hours right away though, just in case your skin prefers a shorter time like mine.
These masks are not bad by any means, but what they offer can be achieved by cheaper means. A good toner, serum, and an occlusive sleep mask will do the same thing, at least for my skin. The most hardcore fans of locking in hydration could slug or get a reusable silicone mask. And don’t forget about hydrogel eye patches that can be used on specific areas like forehead lines and nasolabial folds. A jar of those often costs less than a single Sungboon mask.
Is this a bad product? Not at all. A miracle in a box? Also no. It would have been fairly easy to write a super impressed review and rake in affiliate earnings, but I’m here for honest opinions - not hype. Happy shopping!
