The 80ml essence comes in a glass bottle in the brand’s signature shape. It’s thicker than water but still very easy to dispense and apply. I notice a bit of a scent but it doesn’t linger. Luxury Korean skincare brands pride themselves on having great fermented herbal ingredients, and the Secret Essence is no exception. It has an impressive list of components beneficial to the skin. Having so many plant extracts and oils also comes with an increased risk of a reaction, so make sure to patch test before using all over the face.
My impressions
I’m a price conscious consumer, because I still remember buying all of my products with my own money. And while I get lots of “free” skincare now (I use the term “free” loosely here, because product photography and content creation are a lot of work and require their own expenses), I try very hard not to get out of touch with the pricing. I write reviews for regular people who buy things with their own cash. Most of my skincare is in the mid range price wise, but I occasionally test something more luxurious to see if it’s worth the higher cost.
Su:m37 Secret Essence Fundamental Treatment is lovely. I have combination skin with an oily t-zone and dry / normal everything else. I love toners and essences because they provide hydration and other benefits without overwhelming the skin or making my t-zone oilier. In fact, good hydration helps with the oiliness since the skin doesn’t have to produce all that sebum to try and keep its water in.
This essence works well on my skin. I have some early signs of aging like dulling skin tone and fine lines, especially on my forehead. Su:m37 plumps everything up nicely and layers well with my other skincare. I use this at night, because it’s Summer now and my morning routine is minimal. But at night I take extra time to really hydrate and nourish the skin.
My skin looks brighter and more plump (especially the forehead and nasolabial lines). I love the packaging - it’s luxurious without being overly glitzy or kitschy. Glass is definitely my favorite, because it makes the entire routine feel more special. Overall, this is a wonderful essence if it’s in your budget.
