SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Tone Brightening Boosting Toner Review

SKIN1004 caught my eye in late 2021, because it seemed to be all over social media (and in a lot of PR packages, advent calendars, etc). After trying several of their offerings (read reviews by clicking #SKIN1004 ), I can see that the hype is well deserved. Everything I’ve tried has worked well for my combination skin.

I’m currently using SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Tone Brightening Boosting Toner, available on YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT), Amazon, Jolse, and Stylevana (code INF10KBH). It promises to hydrate, brighten, revitalize, and even gently slough off dead skin cells.

This toner is made with niacinamide, panthenol, apple / papaya / grape fruit extracts, and a patented centella-derived ingredient MadeWhite™ (I’m not sure why it’s not explicitly listed in the ingredients this way).

How to use:

  • Apply after cleansing using hands or a cotton pad

  • Gently pat in

  • Follow with the rest of your routine

Despite having some exfoliating ingredients like apple and papaya, I would not consider this an exfoliating step. It’s a hydrating toner with added pigmentation benefits but seems to be gentle enough for daily use, at least for my combination skin.

The texture is thin and watery without any noticeable scent.

My impressions

This is a good hydrating toner. Beyond basic hydration, I am not noticing any mind blowing benefits. Of course, dealing with hyperpigmentation is a long haul game that takes patience and persistence. I prefer the SKIN1004 Madagascar Centella Toning Toner (review here) for its soothing properties. However, the brightening toner is fine as well, it’s just nothing extra special.

Overall, I will continue to use it since extra hydration is always nice, but will not be going out of my way to get this again. Because of the thin texture, it also makes a good body toner. Have you tried this? What did you think?
