Shimoment Eye Lifting Roller Serum, available on Jolse, promises a plethora of benefits - depuffing, brightenting, and wrinkle improvement. The star ingredients are collagen, caffeine, peptides, and plant extracts.
This eye serum is advertised as suitable for all skin types. I wholeheartedly disagree - read on to find out why.
How to use
Press on the dispenser (right below the massager ball) to release the serum
Apply to desired areas, including around the eyes and mouth
Massage until absorbed
Shimoment Eye Lifting Roller Serum has a gel-like texture with an opaque, white color. It doesn’t feel sticky or greasy, although I couldn’t fully test this…
My impressions
What a huge fail. I have fair skin that’s reactive but not sensitive. If I scratch an itch, my face will redden right away, but I typically do not have allergic reactions to skincare. Because of this, I don’t always study ingredient lists in detail when trying to choose the next thing to try. I should have looked closer at the Shimoment one…
Let’s be honest, I bought this because of the cool packaging and the enticing roller. Once the serum arrived, I decided to try it right away and applied it after my evening bath. My eye started to water immediately, even though I didn’t get any product in it… Still, I proceeded to do the other side, which was a mistake. Within seconds, my eyes were watering and stinging and my skin was burning. I had to wash everything off immediately and thankfully didn’t have any lasting issues.
Upon a closer look at the ingredients, I saw menthol! It’s not in the top half of the list, but still… There’s definitely enough in the formula to really bother my eyes and skin. I’m usually not sensitive to menthol, but this was akin to rubbing Vick’s vapor rub directly on the eyeballs. The “fumes” from the serum rise and get in the eyes, even with careful application. Perhaps the most comical part of all is the company’s insistence on advertising this as great for all skin types. They even mention skin irritation tests… Well, my personal skin irritation test was definitely a fail.
Normally, I would try a product at least a few times before declaring that it’s not for me and writing a scathing review. However, with this one I’m simply afraid to do so. The burning sensation isn’t for me. Even after rinsing my eyes, the skin had that uncomfortable “minty cool” feeling, similar to what I experience after using Icy Hot or Bengay on my lower back. It’s fine on the body, but not so much on the eyes.
For what it’s worth, I really love the packaging. The roller felt nice for the few moments I got to use it. And I like that the serum doesn’t just continue to dispense - you have to press the area right below the roller to get it to come out.
I am not sure what I will do with the rest of this yet. I may try it on the nasolabial folds and see what happens. While I discourage waste and actively try to avoid it, this one may have to get tossed due to hygiene reasons / not being able to share it with anyone. I will be looking for another formula in this type of packaging and hopefully the next one won’t depuff the eye area but burning off the skin…
