Do you ever get something just because of catchy packaging? I’m definitely guilty of that. Saturday Skin Yuzu Vitamin C Sleep Mask, available on Amazon and Stylevana (discount code INF10KBH), comes in one of the prettiest jars I’ve ever seen. The mask promises to soothe, support a healthy barrier, hydrate, and brighten the skin. The marketing materials also mention improvement in the signs of aging, dullness, pores, and stress. Will it maybe do my dishes too?

How to use

  • Apply at night after moisturizer

  • Leave on overnight

  • Use 3-5 times a week

Saturday Skin Yuzu Vitamin C Sleep Mask

Yuzu Vitamin C Sleep Mask smells like bitter citrus - a pleasant scent that doesn’t linger terribly long. Texture is gel-like and easy to spread, but stays tacky to the touch until bedtime. The stickiness is gone by morning.

The star ingredients are vitamin C rich yuzu, niacinamide, and retinol.

The pretty jar is somewhat misleading - the inner part containing the mask is much smaller than the outer portion will lead you to believe. I know that accurate product weight is listed on the packaging, but mentally I still think I’m getting more than I am. This is such a common practice for cosmetics now and I don’t love that.

My impressions

This was ok. Not terrible and not great - just ok. I often used the Yuzu mask instead of moisturizer at night, not in addition to, because my skin is very accustomed to retinoids. I’m guessing the official instructions say to apply over moisturizer to lessen the potential for retinoid-induced dryness and flaking that can happen when someone is first using that ingredient.

My jar is empty now and I’m not sure I’ve seen any results at all aside from some additional moisture. The long lasting stickiness of this mask made me hesitant to reach for it almost every time.

To be fair, my starting point was already pretty good. My skin is far from perfect, but I’m a regular vitamin C and retinoid user, so it’s not realistic for me to expect life changing results from Saturday Skin. I can put up with less than ideal feel and texture for results, but that wasn’t the case here. I can also love a product that only gives modest results but has a fantastic user experience. This mask has neither, and pretty packaging alone isn’t enough for me to repurchase. As always, your experience may vary, but for me it’s a no.
