Most cleansers are pretty straightforward - oil, foam, gel or milk. So when I saw Primera’s “peeling to foam” cleanser, I was intrigued. Primera Organience BR Soft Peeling to Foam Cleanser is available on YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT) and Amazon and promises to gently exfoliate, control excessive oil, and even soothe the skin. All I want from a cleanser is cleansing (wow), so I giggle at marketing materials that promise the world.

The brand calls it hypoallergenic, which means nothing. It’s an unregulated term without an official definition. One look at the ingredients list reveals several plant oils, which are notoriously irritating for very sensitive skin. I guess my workout for the day is rolling my eyes. All that to say - buyer beware of marketing claims and spot test if unsure.

How to use

  • Apply to wet face

  • Gently massage

  • Add more water / massage to create lather

  • Rinse

The cleanser has a mild, earthy scent that is most likely from the raw ingredients and not as an intentional fragrance. It doesn’t linger and is not a deal breaker for me. I prefer intentionally yummy scents or no scent at all, but this is fine too.

My impressions

This is ok if all you want is a gentle foaming cleanser. If you are looking for actual exfoliation, then you will likely be disappointed. For example, I had some very noticeable dry peeling skin around the chin and mouth (from tretinoin), and this cleanser did nothing to get rid of the loose cells. I used a chemical exfoliating wash off mask from Banish and had all the flakes come off right away.

I have combination skin with an oily t-zone and have used Primera’s cleanser almost nightly for several weeks. It does a good job getting rid of anything left behind by my cleansing oil and doesn’t dry out or irritate my skin. It’s not as innovative or interesting as the ads would lead you to believe. It just has a different texture from other foaming cleansers but does the same thing. If another tube landed in my lap, I would use it, but I would not go out of my way to buy it again.
