Bar soap used to be the only cleanser choice, and then we as a society shifted to shower gels and liquid cleansers. But now so many things are coming back (not super excited about thin brows and low rise pants becoming popular again), including bar soap. Except instead of harsh formulas of the past, brands are making gentle versions that are easy on the skin and the environment.
I’ve been using Papa Recipe Tea Tree Control BHA Soap for a few months. It’s available on Amazon, YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT), Olive Young (code KBHOBBIT77), and Jolse.
The soap is made with BHA, tea tree, and eucalyptus to cleanse, remove dead skin cells, and balance sebum production.
How to use
Wet the soap and roll in your hands to lather
Gently massage over desired areas to be cleansed
Rinse with lukewarm water
Follow with the rest of your routine
The pack contains three identical soaps in individual boxes. There’s a very slight tea tree / medicinal scent that doesn’t linger. We (as in my husband and I) use it for both the face and the body, because it does a lovely job washing off post-workout “aromas” - much better than any shower gel could. Plus, my husband has acne-prone skin all over, and using BHA on his body works well.
My impressions
BHA is an awesome ingredient that can help with oily skin, sebaceous filaments, the appearance of pores, and even acne. If leave-on products are too much for the skin, then wash-off ones such as this Papa Recipe soap are a great option. I recommend letting the cleanser sit on the skin for a little bit (15-30 seconds) before washing it off to let the BHA work better. Tea tree has added antibacterial / antimicrobial benefits relevant for acne prone skin.
The Papa Recipe soap is gentle. It’s not a daily use product for me (I have combination skin with very little congestion), but I like it a few times a week, usually after a workout. My reason for not using it daily is having other cleansers I also like, so I tend to rotate them.
It’s awesome as a body cleanser, but I wish the bars came in a bigger size for that purpose. I see a huge improvement in my husband’s skin, especially the nose / cheek area that is the most prone to congested pores. My own skin doesn’t show such impressive results, but that’s because our starting points were very different.
Overall, it’s a great BHA product and the bar format makes it travel friendly, even in a carry-on.
