What’s the best part of buying skincare from small businesses? Discovering indie and niche brands that I would have missed otherwise. One of those brands is Oloa, introduced to me by Be Mused Korea in 2022.
Oloa is an eco-luxe skincare brand that’s based on rigorous biotech research. The name stands for On Life, Of All. I reviewed their Fuco Antioxidant Ampoule here and Oloa Pufa Hydra Relax Cream here.
This year, I got two more things to try - Oloa Vai Balance Toner and Oloa La Protect Waterful Sunscreen. Both are available on Be Mused Korea’s website. Check out the textures for yourself in this reel.
Oloa Vai Balance Toner promises to improve skin texture, gently exfoliate and hydrate the skin. It features a short ingredients list and a 3 month shelf life after opening. I’ve been using it nearly every night after cleansing. The texture is slightly thicker than water; I don’t notice a scent. Products with soothing mugwort often have an earthy, herbal smell that’s not for everyone. That’s not the case with Oloa. While I love mugwort in skincare, the real star in this formula is arnica - it reduces puffiness and promotes an even skin tone. A lovely combo for my evening routine.
I have combination skin with an oily t-zone and dry / normal cheeks. All the recent Midwest temperature changes (from snow to t-shirt weather and back) have done a number on my skin. Oloa Vai Balance Toner offers a much needed dose of hydration without overwhelming the oily parts of my face. I’m noticing an overall improvement in the way my skin looks, but especially the depth of the fine lines on my forehead. Dehydration always makes fine lines appear worse - Oloa Vai toner plumps them up incredibly well. It’s a wonderful toner and I’m happy to have it in my routine.
Oloa La Protect Waterful Sunscreen has a nourishing formula with no white cast. It contains skin loving ingredients like meadowfoam seed oil, panthenol and adenosine. I love the pump dispenser - so convenient. I’ve been applying Waterful Sunscreen in the mornings, letting it fully sink in, and then topping off with a thin layer of translucent powder. Without the powder, it has a beautiful glowy finish, but I’m more of a matte girl myself.
My combination skin loves this sunscreen in the Fall and Winter. Friends with dry skin will likely benefit all year long. I typically lean toward matte SPF and then have to use an additional moisturizer in the winter. Oloa La Protect sunscreen is the best of both worlds - it provides enough nourishment to appease my winter skin plus protects it from the sun. I can do my whole morning routine in one step, which is amazing during busy weekday mornings.
I was beyond impressed with my first two Oloa products a couple of years ago, and these new offerings didn’t disappoint either. Definitely worth a try if you are in the market for something new.
