Numbuzin is a new to me brand that’s been getting some interest online - I see it come up in my Facebook group fairly often lately. I’ve had the Numbuzin No. 3 Super Glowing Essence Toner for a while and am ready to share my thoughts.

The toner is available on Amazon, YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT), and Jolse. It contains 50 types of fermented ingredients to firm, hydrate, and nourish the skin. Numbuzin No. 3 Super Glowing Essence Toner promises to improve elasticity, reduce the appearance of fine lines, and provide a glowy complexion.

How to use

  • After cleansing, apply with a cotton pad

  • Follow with the rest of your routine

The cotton pad instructions are the official ones from the brand. I personally prefer to use my bare hands - it wastes less product than pads plus minimizes friction against the skin.

The essence toner has a fairly thick consistency and is easy to apply. The texture is somewhat reminiscent of the Klairs Supple Prep toner or the Purito green level toner. The bottle is plastic and soft enough to gently squeeze the sides, making dispensing very easy and convenient.

I notice a scent which I personally do not enjoy. It’s likely the result of geraniol and / or citronellol in the ingredients, both of which are considered a fragrance (and potentially irritating).

My impressions

I have mixed feelings about this product for my combination skin. Let’s start with the good - the texture is lovely and provides wonderful hydration to the skin that’s more robust than watery formulas. I don’t find the package particularly beautiful, but it’s definitely easy to use and I like the ability to squeeze the sides a little. My skin had no adverse reactions / irritation - just increased plumpness and hydration. Fermented ingredients have a lot of potential benefits for the skin and can supposedly penetrate better than their non-fermented counterparts.

Now the not so good - the smell, for me, is a bummer. It’s not a deal breaker but I just don’t like it. I also think it got stronger in the 5 months that I’ve had the product (or maybe my sense of smell is still recovering from the 2020 plague I had in 2021). Citronellol is a derivative of citronella plant, which is often added to bug repellants because it’s so offensively fragrant. While sharing ingredients with insect sprays isn’t automatically bad (both can have water, for example), the scent does sort of take me into the bug repellant territory. And maybe all of that is just in my head - I am definitely not a cosmetic formulator. But on a more serious note, I wish more products were truly fragrance free for the benefit of our sensitive friends. And if they are fragranced, at least make the scent pleasant!

I will continue using this essence toner until it’s out, because I don’t waste things and because it does hydrate well, but I wouldn’t be repurchasing it or try to get it again as PR.
