I never skip sunscreen. I slathered some on before leaving the birth center with my brand new baby in tow. Yup, it’s that serious.
One of my current favorites is Neogen Day-Light Protection Sunscreen SPF50+ PA+++. It’s available on Glowie Co (save 10% on anything from their site with my affiliate code kbhobbit10; free US shipping on $25+, international shipping available) and Amazon. If you want the best deal, then get this Glowie Skin Package - the sunscreen is included, my code will still work, and you get lots of other nice extras.
This Neogen sunscreen uses a combination of physical and chemical filters to protect against UVA (aging) and UVB (burning) rays. It also contains raspberry, honey, and rose extracts to soothe and hydrate the skin. I personally do not look for added skincare benefits in sunscreen - adequate sun protection is enough of a benefit to me - but it’s a nice bonus.
How to use:
Apply at the end of your morning routine
Don’t forget the ears, neck, and any other exposed areas
It’s a good practice to reapply sunscreen throughout the day, especially if you are outdoors
The formula is light and easy to apply. It is not sticky or greasy and has minimal shine. In person, I barely notice any shine at all, but sometimes the camera will pick up a bit extra, especially with my bathroom lighting. Nothing a light layer of translucent powder can’t fix. It should work for all skin types.
There’s a noticeable but mild scent. I don’t mind it, and it doesn’t stick around. A few minutes after application, I no longer notice it.
My impressions
This is a very good sunscreen. It’s pleasant to use, isn’t sticky or greasy (a huge deal breaker for me), and doesn’t irritate my skin. I have combination skin, so I look for formulas that won’t dry out the cheeks and won’t clog / grease up the t-zone. Neogen Day-Light Protection Sunscreen does a wonderful job. There’s no white cast on me. Take this with a grain of salt since I’m quite fair, however I think that even people with deeper skin tones would be ok. If you’ve tried this and you have skin darker than mine, please let me know how that went.
Korean sunscreens have been under fire lately, because several of them tested below the SPF levels stated on the label. While I am not an expert, I would like to point out that failure to test at the labeled SPF is not an issue unique to kbeauty - it happens all over the globe for various reasons. For me, this doesn’t mean that kbeauty can’t be trusted, or that SPF isn’t reliable. The affected brands have stopped sales of the products; some are reformulating. Neogen was not affected, as far as I know, so I am not worried. I am very pale and prone to pigmentation, and I have never burned or tanned while using a kbeauty sunscreen. It’s also important to not rely solely on SPF creams for sun protection - seek shade, wear hats and UPF clothing, and don’t sunbathe. I had to learn these things early on, because when I was a kid SPF creams weren’t even a thing in Russia, and like I said - I burn so so sooo fast. I once got a burn in MARCH in RUSSIA - if that’s not impressive, I don’t know what would be.
