It wouldn’t be my blog without frequent sunscreen reviews. It’s my favorite skincare category to test and one of the most important steps in the routine. I like a lot of make p:rem sunscreens and of course I had to try their Cica Pro Soothing Sun Essence 50+ PA++++, available on Amazon, YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT), and Olive Young (discount code (KBHOBBIT77).
This sun essence stood out to me because of the interesting packaging choice - a tube with a soft, bouncy silicone tip for hands-free application. It also promises to cool the skin by 5.3C after one use.
How to use
Take the cap off, point the dispenser downward and gently squeeze the tube
Apply the product to the exposed areas as if you were massaging your skin with the applicator
Use more than one layer for added protection
Clean off the applicator and close the lid
I find the idea interesting and cute, but I still prefer to use my fingers to get the sunscreen everywhere it needs to go, like around my eyes and nostrils (places that are hard to get to with the applicator). But if my hands were dirty / I were outside, the applicator is a good idea. It just maybe needs to be smaller to get into the nooks and crannies.
As probably expected, the sun essence is quite liquid and super easy to apply and spread. It has a faint, pleasant scent that doesn’t linger. On me, there’s no white cast and a pretty natural finish - not too dewy, not overly matte or drying. The formula uses all chemical filters and should look clear on all skin tones.
My impressions
This is going straight into my Sunscreen guide under “all skin types”, because it should work for all of them (unless someone has individual intolerances).
My skin is typically combination and definitely closer to oily in the warmer months, however messing around with retinoids sometimes makes me peel, especially around the mouth, and I opt for more moisturizing sunscreens than my typical mattifying formulas. Make p:rem is perfect, because it hides the dry areas nicely but doesn’t cause any unneeded shine in my t-zone.
I haven’t noticed a cooling effect, but I’m also not out in the scorching sun if I can help it. Perhaps it would have been more noticeable if my skin were warm / hot. I usually apply and reapply my sunscreens at home / indoors or use sticks if outside.
Overall, it’s a great sunscreen that works well by itself or under makeup. I think the applicator idea is interesting but not a big selling point to me personally.
