Sunscreen should be a must-do skincare step for everyone, but someone as fair as I am had to learn to hide from the sun from an early age. I use SPF every day, even when I think I might be staying indoors, because it’s a habit now. One of my recent favorites (and completely empty now) is Kose Suncut UV Perfect Gel Super Water Proof SPF50+ PA++++, available on YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT) and Stylevana (code INF10KBH).
This sunscreen uses chemical filters in a lightweight, gel formula. It’s advertised as sweat resistant and waterproof, but I never got to test it under those conditions. I used it at the very end of Winter / early Spring, and I generally try to avoid sweating if I can help it.
How to use
Apply evenly to the skin
If using on wet skin, try to get as much water off as possible first
Reapply as needed, especially after toweling off
While Kose promises a matte finish, I would call this dewy instead. It has a scent which started out stronger when the bottle was new, but pretty much evaporated by the time I was halfway through the product. Regardless, it never lingered on my skin after application and wasn’t a deal breaker. UV Perfect Gel came off easily with any of my cleansing oils and balms.
This might come as a shock, but I have tons of sunscreens to be tested, and Kose patiently waited for its turn. Seems like the outer packaging changed slightly now, but the product inside is the same. Changing and updating packaging (plus limited time character designs, etc) is very common in kbeauty and jbeauty products.
My impressions
I LOVE THIS. Even though I typically prefer very matte formulas, I fell in love with Kose Suncut. It’s so easy to apply and spread, acts fine under makeup, and has 0 white cast. It doesn’t irritate my skin, not even the delicate eye area, and doesn’t sting if I have any abrasions or blemishes. If you are a powder user like I am, make sure the sunscreen is fully dry before powdering your face. Otherwise, you risk having them mix together into a weird looking paste. This only happened to me twice; both times I was rushing and not paying attention.
Even though I have other sunscreen options on my sink, I kept reaching for Suncut UV every morning until it ran out. I would happily get it again and would love it in a huge, pump-style bottle to use on the body.
