Remember when SPF was only for beach days and involved greasy, white, foul smelling formulas? I don’t consider myself old, but a lot has changed in my lifetime. “Kids these days” have access to awesome sunscreens tailored to their skin type and preferences. What a time to be alive!
Most of I’m From products work very well for my combination skin, so of course I had to try I’m From Rice Sunscreen when it came out. It’s available on Amazon, YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT), and Wishtrend (code LUCY15).
This vegan, cruelty free formula features 41% Goami Rice Extract to brighten complexion and improve skin texture. The filters are 100% physical with SPF 50+ PA++++ protection. The brand goes on to say that this sunblock will not harm coral reefs, but everything I’ve read from dermatologists and chemists say that the “harming the coral reef” narrative is flawed and poorly researched anyway. You decide if this is an attractive claim for you.
How to use
Apply to exposed areas at the end of your morning routine
Reapply as needed
I’m From Rice Sunscreen has a pleasant scent. It doesn’t linger too long - just a few minutes after application. I only notice it when I’m actively slathering on SPF and never after that. The sunscreen spreads easily and leaves a natural / semi-matte finish with no white cast on my fair skin. I apply it all over the face (including around the eyes), neck, chest, and ears.
My impressions
I can’t pick a single all-time favorite sunscreen, but this one is definitely in my top 5. No white cast (at least on me), a pleasant, quickly dissipating scent, and a matte finish without unwanted dryness. I have combination skin with an oily t-zone but dry cheeks. My ideal sunscreen helps mitigate the oil without irritating the rest of the face, and I’m From Rice Sunscreen does just that. I can even wear it without a layer of translucent powder on top (something I have to do with most sunscreens since they are too dewy for my taste).
It’s important to note that this formula doesn’t irritate my eyes, but neither do most sunscreens. Your experience may differ. However, the chances for irritation are lower with physical formulas such as this one vs hybrid or chemical formulas.
I find myself reaching for this sunscreen over and over, even though I have a few other open tubes. The biggest selling point for me is the finish. Plus, this is more “gentle” than a lot of other mattifying sunscreens and will likely work for all skin types, barring an individual intolerance to a specific ingredient. Definitely worth a try.
