Toward the end of 2020, I received a surprise (and beautiful) package from Wishtrend (unboxing here). Inside were their brand new rice releases, plus the iconic I’m From rice toner. Here are my reviews for the toner, mask, and cream.
One of the new releases was I’m From Rice Serum. It is made with 73% fermented rice germ extract and promises to boost collagen production and improve elasticity. The brand recommends using the serum along with the rice cream for an even better effect. It’s sold on* Wishtrend, YesStyle (save more with a reward code KBHOBBIT), Amazon (official brand store), eBay (official brand store), and Stylevana.
How to use:
Apply to clean skin after toner
Follow with cream
The texture is interesting - it’s quite thick for a serum, more like a light gel-cream, but it absorbs quickly and without stickiness. There is no scent. The serum is vegan friendly and cruelty free.
My impressions
It took me forever to realize that my combination skin needs hydration and nourishment, not harsh astringents, to make it happy. And especially now, during winter in the Midwest, I’m doing my best to care for my complexion. One positive thing about working from home (thanks, pandemic) is a bit more time for a morning routine. In any normal year, my morning routine is like this: toner pad - sunscreen - run out the door.
I’ve been using I’m From Rice Serum both morning and evening (not necessarily every day twice a day, but several times a week, sometimes just in the morning and sometimes just before bed). I really like it. The texture is nice. Someone with really dry skin may enjoy pairing the serum with the I’m From Rice Cream, but for me that cream was too nourishing. I use lighter moisturizers, especially in the morning.
I love how it helps seal in hydrating toners and essences, even before the moisturizer step. I rarely own an entire line of products all at once, but I’ve had an opportunity to try all of the I’m From Rice products together, and they do make a great team. Sure, the cream isn’t totally a match for me, but no product can suit everyone.
While it’s hard to isolate the effects of a single product in a routine, I do notice that even on the driest coldest days, my skin stays supple and nourished. There are no oily areas and no dry patches. I also think my nasolabial folds (those pesky lines that go from the nostrils to the corners of the mouth) are looking softer too. I think this is worth a try. I’m about halfway down my bottle, perhaps there will be even more improvements by the time I’m completely out.
