I’m From Mugwort Spot Gel Review

Updated: Mar 5, 2021

My skin has given me plenty of opportunities lately to test out acne products and spot treatments. The only explanation I can come up with is stress. This year has been challenging for me, and I am not referring to world events.

One of the recent By Sophie beauty boxes focused on acne care and included I’m From Mugwort Spot Gel. You can watch the unboxing video here. The gel is available on* Wishtrend, YesStyle (use KBHOBBIT at checkout for extra savings), eBay, Amazon, and Stylevana.

The clear gel is 90% mugwort and helps heal the breakout while controlling sebum production. It is vegan, cruelty free, and made without artificial colors and fragrance.

How to use:

  • Apply to affected areas at the last step of skincare

I use it before sunscreen, let it absorb, then use SPF. In the evening, I apply as the very final step.

My impressions

This isn’t my favorite spot treatment, but it has its uses - for example, covering a large area, if needed. I think pimple patches work quicker and better, but even the best, thinnest ones are noticeable. Plus, you’d need a lot of them for a big breakout. Products with calamine (the pink powder) also tend to work faster on me and can cover large areas, but again - not invisible. The I’m From Mugwort Spot Gel isn’t noticeable at all.

I’ve used it on the face as well as body breakouts (I’ll spare you the details about the exact placement). It makes painful, closed zits less inflamed. They take a couple of days to heal up, which is still better than if I apply nothing. Denatured alcohol is the second ingredient, but the trick is in the formulation. I do not find this product drying in any way, and have had zero irritation.

I really love the packaging - a squeeze tube with a fine tip nozzle. I dispense a bit onto my fingertips (I avoid touching the breakout with the nozzle to not contaminate the product) and then gently rub / pat in. The gel dries down quickly and isn’t sticky or visible.

This would be a good option for people who have frequent, large area breakouts that are difficult to treat with other, more fast acting products. And for anyone who wants to treat their pimples without walking around with pink or clear dots all over the face.
