I’m From Fig Cleansing Balm Review

Updated: Mar 5, 2021

I am yet to try an I’m From product that I don’t absolutely love. All of them have been amazing so far. And the new I’m From Fig Cleansing Balm is no exception. It’s sold on the official* Wishtrend site, as well as eBay and YesStyle (use reward code KBHOBBIT for extra savings).

A cleansing balm is an alternative to cleansing oil and is used as the first step to remove makeup and oil-soluble products (such as sunscreen). I’m From developed a proprietary way of processing figs and created a whole line of products around that concept. Instead of using water to extract beneficial fig components, I’m From uses oil in what they call an Oil Macerating Extraction Method. The resulting Fig Oil Water is the star ingredient. A full list can be found at the end of this review.

I’m From Fig Cleansing Balm is cruelty free and promises to not only cleanse the skin well but also get rid of blackheads / comedones.

How to use:

  • Apply to dry skin with dry hands as the first step of cleansing

  • Gently massage - the balm will melt into an oil

  • Massage some more and it will turn white and milky

  • Rinse well with water

I follow with a foaming cleanser and then the rest of my evening routine.

I think the official website instructions might be wrong. They state to apply and leave this product on for 10-15 minutes. I don’t do that, but thought it was worth mentioning. I wouldn’t be surprised if the creators accidentally pulled the instructions from some wash off mask and listed them for this cleansing balm. Luckily, I’ve owned enough balms to know how to use them (plus I have the package directions as well).

My impressions:

Spoiler alert - this balm made it into my Spring Favorites video. I’ve had several cleansing balms by now, and all of them have been good, but I’m From stands out. It melts faster and “smoother” than others, turning into the most luxurious cleansing oil right on my skin. I love gently massaging my face with it in the evenings. The scent is faint and very pleasant. I’m not sure if it’s what figs smell like - I’ve only had dried ones and never fresh.

The balm beautifully takes off makeup, sunscreen, and doesn’t irritate my eyes (I use it to take off eye makeup as well). I love that the little spatula fits snugly under the lid, so I don’t have to keep the cardboard box the way I normally do (for spatula storage).

I’m From Fig Cleansing Balm makes my skin very soft and smooth. I like it so much that I keep reaching for it, despite having other first step cleansers in my vast arsenal of skincare.
