Haruharu WONDER Black Rice Triple AHA Gentle Cleansing Gel promises to gently exfoliate and wash away daily dirt and buildup. It features fermented black rice, betaine, glycerin, and triple AHA. The cleanser is available on Amazon and YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT) and is made without fragrance.

How to use

  • Massage over damp face

  • Rinse

  • Follow with the rest of your routine

Since I don’t wash my face in the mornings, this is one of my evening cleansers. I start with an oil or a balm, then finish the process with the HaruHaru gel. Seeing exfoliating acids in the ingredients list (even mild ones) always worries me as far as the eye area is concerned. However, this cleanser is very gentle and has given me no issues, even around the eyes.

Do you know how long it took me to realize that this is different from my beloved Haruharu WONDER Black Rice Moisture 5.5 Soft Cleansing Gel? WAY too long. Because this came to me as PR, I didn’t spend time reading marketing materials beforehand. The packaging looks almost identical to the soft cleansing gel, and the look of the product inside is also quite similar. I thought I was getting a restock of my old time favorite.

The Triple AHA bottle has a see-through lower part and the gel is slightly more liquid than the other cleanser. That’s it for visual differences - very difficult to pick up on unless you are specifically looking for those things.

Even the ingredients lists look nearly identical. Skincare nerds like myself will notice that the AHA version contains tartaric and mandelic acids which are absent in the other formula.

My impressions

I like this cleanser - it’s gentle, effective, and thorough. I prefer the slightly thicker texture of the Soft Cleansing gel, but that is not a deal breaker. Nobody asked me, but if I were in charge of marketing and packaging for this product, I would differentiate it quite a bit more from the other version. It simply doesn’t stand out right now, and I can see people mistakenly ordering the wrong one.

I don’t notice any significant differences in skin condition or appearance when using the AHA cleanser vs the Soft one. Someone might have a different experience, but for me the cleansers are pretty much identical. I enjoy both. I wish both came in bigger packaging. Both are worth a try.
