d'Alba Waterfull Essence Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ is a broad spectrum sunscreen that promises 24 hour hydration and is clinically proven to work well under makeup without caking. The marketing materials also focus quite heavily on blue light protection, but based on all the dermatologist and chemist content I’ve seen, I don’t think blue light is a huge concern for most people. I personally just need a good, effective sunscreen to protect me from the actual sun, not a computer monitor.
The sun essence is available on Amazon and Olive Young (discount code KBHOBBIT77).
How to use
Apply at the end of your skincare routine to exposed areas of the skin
Reapply as needed throughout the day
The texture is beautiful - the product looks like a white cream but is super light and easy to apply. It spreads over the skin effortlessly and gets absorbed quickly with zero stickiness. There’s a bit of a pleasant scent, but it dissipates quickly. The scent was stronger when the bottle was new, but seems to have diminished the more I used the sunscreen. Or maybe my nose simply got used to it. The finish is a little dewy, but mostly natural and doesn’t make my combination skin shiny.
My impressions
d'Alba Waterfull Essence Sun Cream is a perfect example of why testing a product thoroughly before publishing the article is important. At first, I didn’t like it very much and thought it was too dewy. Well, I just finished the entire tube and it’s been absolutely lovely. Yes, the finish is slightly glowy but not too shiny, and a thin dusting of translucent powder fixes that. The dew stays controlled all day - it doesn’t come back.
There’s no white cast or irritation, even around the eyes. The not-caking-under-makeup aspect is less important to me, because I don’t use anything other than mascara and brow gel on a daily basis, but I’m sure a certain portion of the population will appreciate that feature.
I’m not sure naming this a sun “cream” was the right decision. The word “cream” elicits thoughts of something moisturizing and potentially heavy, but this is so light and beautiful. Personal sticking with “sun essence” would have conveyed the message more clearly and accurately. Either way, it’s an awesome product worth trying.
