After years of trying all kinds of kbeauty, I would consider myself hard to impress. And yet brands never fail to come up with something new and exciting. One example is Commonlabs Vitamin C Brightening Sun Serum, available on YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT) and Stylevana (code INF10KBH).

This product combines the benefits of vitamin C with the protection of SPF. It promises to brighten and even out the skin tone while shielding the user from the sun.

COMMONLABS Vitamin C Brightening Sun Serum

How to use

  • Apply evenly to exposed areas at the end of your skincare routine

Commonlabs advertises a light and refreshing finish and fast absorption. I have to agree - the serum is pleasant to use and doesn’t leave any stickiness behind. Texture-wise, it’s more of a light gel-lotion for me, but many brands take liberties with naming conventions. Plus, “sun serum” sounds a lot more interesting than “sun lotion”, which is basically every other sunscreen on the market. The pump dispenser is a perfect packaging choice here.

I notice a slight refreshing citrus scent that’s quite pleasant and not long lasting.

My impressions

This is so interesting and overall I like Commonlabs Vitamin C Brightening Sun Serum. My only issue is the “serum” part. It’s my understanding that vitamin C is most effective when applied as close to the skin as possible, so in the first or second skincare step. Yet SPF should always be last (before makeup). For a morning minimalist like myself, this can be their only product that offers both sun protection and brightening. But what about people who use other serums and even moisturizers before sunscreen? Perhaps they are not the target audience.

Anyway, it’s a nice sunscreen with a pleasant texture and no white cast. I haven’t noticed any significant brightening from Commonlabs, but I use other products with niacinamide and vitamin C. Definitely a good choice for anyone trying to simplify their routine while still enjoying multiple benefits in a single step.
