Choc Choc Rice Power Essence Review

“Choc choc” is Korean for “well-moisturized skin”. It’s no wonder that a Chicago beauty store chose this for their name. Choc Choc staff handpick the best of Korean cosmetics for their customers. The shop recently released their very first proprietary formula - Choc Choc Rice Power Essence, available on their site.

Rice is the new (but ancient) superstar in Korean beauty, beloved for its brightening properties. In addition to rice bran water, Choc Choc Rice Power Essence features idebenone and mushroom collagen to hydrate and brighten. I was especially interested in this product because of idebenone. It’s sometimes compared to botox and has four times more antioxidants than vitamin C.

The formula is made without artificial colors or fragrance, mineral oil, parabens, silicone, and is cruelty free and vegan. A full list of ingredients is available at the end of my review.

How to use:

  • Apply to clean face after toner

  • Pat in for better absorption

  • I also follow with a moisturizer

Choc Choc Rice essence has a gel-like consistency. I see more and more essences like that, as opposed to watery formulas that were more of the norm in the past. The packaging has an easy to use pump dispenser that I find quite convenient.

My impressions

I have combination skin that’s very prone to pigmentation. I get freckles easily and am dealing with a few PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) spots. Brightening products are always welcome in my routine. Plus, dullness is one of those subtle signs of aging that nobody talks about - as the cell turnover slows down, the complexion starts to look less radiant and we appear older.

The Choc Choc Rice Power Essence has been a regular part of my routine for several weeks. Sometimes I use it exactly as directed - after toner - and sometimes I layer it over other watery steps if my skin is feeling parched (see a routine example in this reel).

I’m pleased. My skin is looking refreshed and plumped up. I haven’t seen any earth shattering pigmentation benefits, but I do find that the overall complexion is looking brighter. I will take slow and steady results over overnight intense products any day. My only wish is for the package to be larger / contain more product. But other than that, I’m really liking this.
