I love wash off masks - it’s a fun and relaxing way to see some immediate (usually temporary) results, and some even offer longer term benefits. I received the Beauty of Joseon Red Bean Refreshing Pore Mask through the YesStyle influencer program (apply here). It’s sold on Amazon, YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT), Stylevana (code INF10KBH), Olive Young (code KBHOBBIT77), and iHerb (code CWN6107).
The mask promises to deep clean the pores, exfoliate, and absorb excess sebum. The marketing materials also mention a cooling effect, which I personally do not notice.
How to use
Apply after cleansing
Leave on for 5-10 minutes
Rinse and follow with the rest of your routine
Beauty of Joseon pore mask has a muted rose color and a soft, creamy texture with visible inclusions of red bean powder. It smells incredibly familiar, but even after using it for months I still cannot figure out what this scent is. The fragrance is not strong and doesn’t last past the application.
My impressions
I have combination skin with an oily t-zone. Black heads aren’t typically a concern, but sebaceous filaments occasionally drive me nuts. I usually have a clay mask on hand for a quick “degreasing” when needed.
A small rant - clay masks do not “clean the pores”. Kaolin clay isn’t some magic pore vacuum that will pull out all your life’s mistakes through the skin. Clay absorbs impurities that it touches, gently removing excess sebum and other debris from the surface of the skin. There’s no “deep cleaning” happening. If someone wants to address the source of the excess sebum, they should look into oil soluble ingredients like BHA. If you want some do’s and don'ts of clay masking, check out this video.
With that said, I really like Beauty of Joseon Red Bean Refreshing Pore Mask. It’s joyful to use and leaves my skin velvety soft and smooth. I enjoy the gentle physical exfoliation provided by the red beans - it compliments the sebum absorption of the kaolin very nicely. My skin always looks refreshed, pleasantly matte, and more clear after this mask.
