Some of the kbeauty steps are the same as the “traditional” Western skincare - cleansing, moisturizing, sun protection. Double cleansing, however, was a completely new concept for me and I have never looked back. I love using an oil cleanser or a balm every evening to gently remove makeup, SPF, and maybe even a bit of stress from the day.
Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm is a well known first step cleanser, but I never tried it until this year. Having just finished the jar last week, I’m ready to share my subjective opinions.
The balm is available on Amazon, YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT), Stylevana (code INF10KBH), Olive Young (code KBHOBBIT77), and iHerb (code CWN6107). It promises sherbet-like texture with zero eye stinging. The brand improved the formula and packaging based on consumer feedback. I never had the original, only the improved version.
How to use
Scoop out a desired amount with the included spatula
Gently massage over the face and neck in circular motions
Rinse with lukewarm water
Follow with a foaming cleanser and then the rest of your routine
I love cleansing balms with a flip top lid. I almost always drop the lids, sometimes in the tub, so I like having it stay on the jar while in use. As promised, I had no stinging or irritation even when using Beauty of Joseon directly on the eyelashes and lids.
My impressions
This is one of those products that’s fantastic for the right person. It’s gentle but effective and should work for sensitive skin. I have no complaints, however it just wasn’t exciting for me. Since my skin isn’t particularly sensitive, I can get away with using skincare with fragrance. Cleansing is one of my favorite daily steps, and I really enjoy the entire experience, not just the outcome. Because of that, I prefer cleansers with pleasant textures and / or smells. Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm is the vanilla ice cream of skincare - universally good but not super exciting.
With that said, it did a great job washing off all sunscreen and makeup, even waterproof mascara, without the need for separate eye makeup removers. It didn’t dry or irritate my skin. I wouldn’t be mad if I got this again, but it’s not something I would actively seek out. If you have sensitive skin or cannot tolerate fragrance, this is likely a great option. As always, patch testing and reviewing ingredients (available at the end of the article) is a good thing.
I can definitely see why this is such a popular cleansing balm, especially among people who need very gentle formulas.
