AXIS-Y Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen Review - NEW Version

This is a sponsored review with affiliate links. All opinions are my own.

It’s been nearly a year since I reviewed the original version of the AXIS-Y sunscreen. It was an instant Holy Grail and a frequent flyer in my favorites and “best of” content. Unfortunately, it disappeared online and I couldn’t get my hands on it again. And now AXIS-Y released a new, improved version of this crowd favorite. Follow the brand on Instagram to stay up to date on new launches and giveaways.

AXIS-Y Complete No-Stress Physical Sunscreen is made with mugwort, 2% niacinamide and squalane to protect and soothe the skin. It has SPF 50+ PA ++++ and an ISO certification. The sunscreen is available on the official AXIS-Y website and YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT).

The formula contains all physical filters (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) and promises no piling, minimal white cast, and a stress-free application experience. AXIS-Y uses 6+1+1 Advanced Formula skincare, which stands for 6 key / active ingredients, 1 core ingredient, and 1 effective technology. In this sunscreen, the core ingredient is mugwort to support elasticity and give a radiant complexion. The other 6 beneficial components are: calendula, green tea, squalane, grape, chamomile, and allantoin. It also features unique SYN-COLL technology of peptide sequencing for an anti-aging effect.

How to use:

  • Apply all over the face, neck, and other exposed areas at the end of your morning routine

  • Wait for it to dry down before applying makeup (if you use any)

  • Don’t forget your ears, sides of the neck, and the eye area

The sunscreen comes in a nozzle dispenser tube (just like the original formula) and has a natural, semi-matte finish - not too matte but not dewy either. I tend to top off all of my sunscreens with translucent powder to get the matte effect that I prefer. The formula is easy to spread and doesn’t leave a white cast on me. I’m not sure how it would work on deeper skin tones, since I’m so fair, but for me it’s lovely.

Even though AXIS-Y sunscreen doesn’t contain artificial fragrance, it still has a pretty noticeable scent (at least to me), which lingers for a while. I’m not a cosmetic chemist, so I can only guess that it comes from balsam resin or another plant ingredient. The original formula didn’t smell, as far as I remember, and didn’t contain balsam resin. I should also note that I’ve asked around and others do not notice the scent, so it’s possible that my senses are still off after having COVID six months ago.

My impressions

I’m so glad that one of my favorite sunscreens is back! The finish and texture are perfect for my combination skin. I also enjoy the nozzle dispenser since it allows me to squeeze out exactly what I want, plus it’s more fun than traditional tubes.

I reach for this sunscreen often, because it looks nice and natural even without my favorite dusting of setting powder on top. It’s not sticky or greasy and acts well under bb cream if I’m using any (which is pretty rare). I use it all over the face, including around the eyes, without any issues (no irritation, no watery eyes, etc). The only way to make this better is if it were unscented.

All I want from my SPF is effective sun protection, but I also appreciate that the brand put in other beneficial ingredients like mugwort and squalane. More often than not, SPF is my only morning moisturizer, so if it’s contributing something to my skin health on top of sun protection, that’s a great additional benefit. I especially appreciate niacinamide since it can help with hyperpigmentation.

Overall, I am pleased and will continue using the tube until I run out.
