I have fine, thin hair with oily roots and dry/normal tips. I’ve been dealing with hair thinning and hair loss for a few years and even have some videos on the subject. While I’m mostly happy with my established hair routine, it’s still fun to occasionally test new products. A little bit over a month ago, I started using Aromatica Rosemary Scalp Scaling Shampoo, available on Amazon, YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT), Stylevana (code INF10KBH), Olive Young (code KBHOBBIT77), and iHerb (code CWN6107).

This shampoo contains rosemary, pine leaf, ginger, basil, coriander and oregano to gently exfoliate the scalp. The brand advertises it as hypoallergenic, so I’ll use this as a chance to remind everyone that it’s an unregulated and meaningless term. People can absolutely be allergic to any of the ingredients. If you have specific sensitivities, it’s a good idea to review the ingredients list before buying and using a product. Patch testing is also recommended.

How to use

  • Apply to wet hair

  • Gently massage

  • Rinse and follow with the rest of your routine

Aromatica Rosemary Shampoo easily creates abundant foam and rinses cleanly. It smells like rosemary with a hint of other herbs. This is not my preferred scent but doesn’t bother me either. A huge bonus is that it doesn’t last long after the rinse. I’ve been following this with the lador ACV conditioner, which smells lovely, so it’s all good.

My impressions

This isn’t a wow product for me, but it’s not bad either. I love kbeauty conditioners, yet shampoos are way harder. Some don’t cleanse my roots well enough, and others seem to strip the henna out of my hair way too quickly. None of those are an issue with Aromatica - my hair looks and feels clean, and the color isn’t affected much. I still prefer my current non-kbeauty color treated shampoo, so I won’t be getting Aromatica again. But it’s not bad, just doesn’t win against the other options at my disposal.

As far as rosemary - it’s really having a moment on social media right now for its supposed hair growth benefits. I’m not immune to the marketing (and there’s some good research too), but most likely a wash off product that only stays on the scalp for a little while won’t produce any hair growth results. If you are struggling with hair loss, the first and best thing to do is to consult with your healthcare provider.

Overall, if you like good cleansing shampoos with a pronounced herbal scent, Aromatica is worth a try.
