I recently reviewed Aprilskin Real Calendula Peeling Pads. As promised, here’s the next review from this line - Aprilskin Real Calendula Foam Cleanser. It’s sold on* eBay.
Calendula is a soothing and anti-inflammatory herb that has been used in traditional medicine for centuries. This foaming cleanser also contains willow bark extract (which is what salicylic acid is made from). This extract reduces the amount of unwanted skin sebum and keeps pores in top shape. A foaming cleanser is a great way to introduce salicylic acid, because it doesn’t stay on the skin for long and thus has a reduced chance of causing dryness (as opposed to salicylic acid toners, for example). The foam also includes beta glucan - a skin soothing agent with antioxidant properties, which reduces redness and is great for sensitive skin.
All of the ingredients are EWG certified as safe (a full list can be found at the end of this review). The foaming cleanser was tested by P&K Skin Research Center and found to be non-irritating. It should work well even for sensitive skin, although guaranteeing anything is virtually impossible since all people are different and some have individual intolerances.
How to use:
Squeeze a small amount into palms, add water and lather into foam
Gently massage over the face and neck
Rinse
Aprilskin Real Calendula Foam Cleanser can be used in the morning or at night (if using at night, starting with an oil cleanser first).
My impressions:
This is a great foaming cleanser. It gently purifies without stripping or drying the skin. The scent is very gentle and reminds me a bit of citrus. I mostly use it in the evenings. I’m so glad I decided to get it. The tube is rather large and should last for several months. All of my other recent foaming cleansers were about half that size.
Looking closely, one can see tiny calendula petals in the product. It probably doesn’t provide any actual benefits, but it’s amusing and I enjoy it.
