I love oil cleansing! It’s the most relaxing part of my evening routine - dissolving the dirt, makeup, and stress of the day before applying other lotions and potions. I recently finished APRILSKIN Carrotene IPMP Hydromelt Cleansing Balm, so it’s time to talk about it.

The balm promises to help with sebum, blackheads, acne, and of course to remove makeup and sunscreen. It’s available on Amazon, YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT), and Stylevana (code INF10KBH).

How to use

  • Use clean hands or provided spatula to scoop out a dime-sized amount of product

  • Gently massage over dry face and neck

  • Add a little water and massage some more - the balm will emulsify

  • Rinse thoroughly, follow with a foaming cleanser

The trademarked Carrotene IPMP™ has anti-inflammatory effects, although that is not something I look for in a cleanser. All I want is a gentle but effective makeup and dirt removal.

The balm melts easily and is quite pleasant to use. It makes the skin yellow but once Aprilskin is rinsed off, so is the color. This could be a good teaching tool for younger people in your life who may be prone to skipping areas when face washing - the color makes it super obvious which parts have been cleansed and which haven’t yet.

My impressions

It’s a great cleanser and it worked well for removing all of my makeup except for waterproof Japanese mascara (Canmake brand). I don’t usually wear waterproof lash makeup, so it’s not a big deal for me. The beautiful packaging deserves a special note - it’s so bright and happy and a pleasure to use.

My only complaint is not specific to APRILSKIN, but to many skincare brands lately - please stop making jars look deceptively huge! This is a double walled package, where the inner chamber is a lot smaller than the outer one. I’m sure the ml/oz listed are accurate, but the big jar still feels like visual deception to me. Plus, it takes up more room than it needs to in my bathroom.

Overall, I had a good experience and would happily use this balm again.
