Eye cream is a bit of a controversial topic in the beauty community. On the one side are people who adore eye creams and see them as necessary. The other side claims over and over that eye creams are just overpriced moisturizers and any other facial cream will do.
I’m somewhere in the middle of those extremes. Is eye cream strictly necessary? Maybe not. Sure, a plain facial moisturizer will work, especially if you are on a very tight budget. But for someone with combination or oily skin whose facial routine focuses on sebum control and lighter products, a separate more nourishing eye cream can offer some tangible benefits. I personally enjoy a dedicated eye product - skincare is more than just a utilitarian process to me, it’s also a ritual of relaxation and self care.

AHC eye cream promises to fill in wrinkles around the eye area (something useful if you are applying this before doing eye makeup), increase elasticity and moisturize. It’s made with peptides, elastin, and collagen. The ultra-high pressure used in the creation of this cream results in tiny particles capable of penetrating several layers of skin.

The tube is generously sized (especially for an eye cream) at 30ml. The product inside is creamy but not greasy and has a mild, pleasant scent. The first ingredient on the list - calendula protein extract - is known for its regenerative and collagen stimulating properties. Calendula doesn’t seem like a very well known plant in the USA, but I’m quite familiar with these wonderful golden flowers. My mom used to make all kinds of herbal topical concoctions with them when I was little. I still remember the scent very vividly, even 20+ years later.
My impressions
This is a lovely eye product. I have hooded, oily eyelids, so anything even remotely heavy or greasy is an immediate fail for me. The AHC Youth Lasting Real Eye Cream has been wonderful. I use it as part of my evening routine around the eye area (I would maybe use it on the rest of the face too if I didn’t already own 10 other face creams).
While I definitely have the maturity of a 14 year old (and I don’t make my bed!), I am turning 32 this month, so aging is happening. I see getting older as a privilege many people are denied, so I try to appreciate all the little changes in my skin. However, that doesn’t mean that I won’t try to hold back the fine lines as long as possible, and the eye area is one of the first ones to show them.
I’m noticing plumped up, nourished skin. No congestion or milia and no other unwanted side effects. Even the next morning the skin around my eyes feels taken care of, and SPF spreads more easily. Yes, SPF should be applied around the eyes.
