I hope that most of my readers already know about the importance of SPF for the skin. A quick recap - sunscreen protects against skin cancer, premature aging, and even helps the pores look their best. I’ve been using SPF daily for decades, even before it was mainstream, because I’m so fair and burn very quickly. However, one area is typically neglected - the lips!
A few years ago I had a huge panic moment when I realized that skin cancer of the lips is very much a thing, and treatment can be quite disfiguring and difficult. I immediately went to a local grocery store and picked up a Badger Balm. Ummm… Sure, it probably worked as far as protecting my lips, but the white cast and the grease were so awful.
Enter Korean and Japanese lip SPFs! Once again, the world of kbeauty is here to bail us out. Up until now, I’ve been mostly using Japanese lip SPFs, but I currently have Abib Protective Lip Balm Block Stick SPF15. This balm is available on YesStyle (reward code KBHOBBIT), Stylevana (code INF10KBH), Jolse, and StyleKorean and is infused with almond oil and shea butter.
How to use
Apply liberally to lips as needed
Abib lip balm goes on clear, has a very faint fruity scent and a somewhat sweet taste. I don’t notice the taste in normal use, but I specifically licked my lips for the purpose of this review and it was slightly sweet.
My impressions
I really like this balm. It’s fairly basic in its design and functionality, but it does the job without a white cast. It’s easy to apply - not too firm and not too soft. It didn’t wow me, but it’s not bad either. I would have liked a higher SPF than 15, and for beach days I would suggest you use a more robust lip sunscreen, but for daily wear this is fine. It moisturizes the skin and doesn’t cause me any reactions (and is for sure worlds ahead of Badger Balm hehe). I will keep using this until it’s out.
