Update 3.21.21: As many of you already know, the Purito sunscreens tested below the SPF stated on the label. I decided not to take down my reviews of them, but in the spirit of full disclosure I am adding this update. The brand is currently working on new formulations, and I signed up to be an early tester.
I tend to hoard two categories of Korean skincare - toners and sunscreens. I always have several bottles or tubes of them around the house. My long time favorite brand Purito just released a new all-mineral non-nano sunscreen Purito Comfy Water Sun Block SPF50+ PA++++. Yesss! It’s sold on eBay, Amazon and YesStyle. This is a second Purito sunscreen product in their lineup; you can read about the first one here.
As with all of the Purito products, the ingredients list is nontoxic and safe, using only “green” components as identified by EWG (Environmental Working Group). In addition to having physical UVA and UVB filters, Purito Comfy Water Sun Block also contains these skin loving ingredients:
Niacinamide - vitamin B3 that visibly tightens pores, improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and evens out the skin tone.
Madecassoside, asiaticoside, and other centella derivatives - madecassoside is one of the principal bioactive components in the Centella asiatica plant. It speeds up the healing processes in the skin and works as an antioxidant (and so do the other centella components). Great for sensitive and acne prone skin.
Adenosine - a yeast derived anti-aging, soothing and restoring agent suitable for all skin types. Adenosine is capable of increasing the levels of collagen and elastin, making the skin appear smoother and younger. It is especially effective in the eye area (crow’s feet) and can also reduce swelling/puffiness.
Tea tree oil - anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial.
How to use:
Apply to the face and body at the end of your skincare (before makeup)
Reapply as needed during sun exposure
This product has SPF 50+ and PA++++ (the highest possible). Most of us have probably already heard of SPF (sun protection factor), but what is PA? It’s based on a Persistent Pigmentation Darkening test which measures how much UVA a person can be exposed to without tanning/skin darkening. The range is from + to ++++. In short, higher SPF and more “+”s after the PA mean higher protection against the sun.
Purito Comfy Water Sun Block is 70% water. It has a very delicate scent. I might not be the best judge of fragrance since I liked the centella sunblock smell as well, but some people find it too strong. The texture is light and silky (perhaps due to the water base); my skin soaks it up without any stickiness.
My impressions:
I never skip sunscreen. Never. My skin might become one solid freckle if I go outside “unprotected”. This sunblock is great. I love that the filters are physical and all of the ingredients are safe and nontoxic. I have combination skin, and during the current warm seasons, this product easily acts as a moisturizer. I sometimes apply it right after toner or essences and skip the lotion/cream step.
No white cast!
I love the light texture and the non-sticky finish. The sunblock works well under makeup as well. I’m definitely happy with it and would get it again. You can read my other sunscreen reviews here and my Purito reviews here.
