Today’s global market makes the following possible - a person born and raised in Russia can live in the USA and buy a sleeping mask made in Korea using Icelandic glacial water. Wow! If you have not heard the term “sleeping pack” before, it’s simply another way of saying “night mask” or even “night cream”. Korean skincare doesn’t differentiate between day and night creams, but instead offers more intensive nourishing night masks to be used several times a week. These are usually called sleeping packs. Today’s review is about one of those.
LUOKI Nordic Glacier Water Sleeping Pack contains 72% Iceland Olfus Glacier Water rich in minerals to soothe and nourish the skin. It is free of parabens, artificial coloring, and synthetic fragrance, making it suitable even for sensitive skin types. It's available on eBay and Amazon.
Other beneficial ingredients include:
Niacinamide - vitamin B3 that visibly tightens pores, improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, evens out the skin tone.
Safflower Bud Extract - rich in amino acids that promote natural collagen synthesis.
Arginine - an amino acid that speeds up healing, reduces inflammation and irritation, and works as an antioxidant while hydrating the skin (by binding to water). Arginine helps the other products penetrate deeper and work more effectively by improving circulation.
Ceramide NP - ceramides are natural fats that make up over 50% of the skin. They form a protective barrier, hold in the moisture and prevent pollution and other outside factors from negatively influencing the skin. The ceramide levels go down under the influence of age and sun.
Sodium Hyaluronate - attracts and holds moisture better than any other natural or synthetic polymer. It’s not abrasive like exfoliant-type acids and is completely safe to use even when it's sunny out.
Allantoin - a skin conditioning and protecting agent.
Adenosine - a yeast derived anti-aging, soothing and restoring agent suitable for all skin types. Adenosine is capable of increasing the levels of collagen and elastin, therefore making the skin appear smoother and younger. It is especially effective in the eye area (crow’s feet) and can also reduce swelling/puffiness.
Rice Extract - nourishes.
Lemon Extract - improves skin tone and pigmentation.
Green Tea Extract - rich in antioxidants, hydrates and soothes the skin.
I’m used to applying sleeping masks after toner, essence and serum. This one, however, has slightly different instructions:
Cleanse and tone the face
Apply the mask before bed
Can be used daily
It’s probably because the mask is light and has a gel texture full of beneficial ingredients that work best when in direct contact with the skin, not sitting on top of layers of other products. Still, sometimes I apply a very watery essence like the Manyo Factory Galacto Niacin (review here) first.
My impressions:
Some nights I feel like doing a ten step routine, and others I just want to sleep (especially now that I’m pregnant and sleep sounds better than just about anything else). So a sleeping mask that can be applied right after toner is very enticing. The light gel texture makes the product very pleasant to use, and a small dime-sized dollop is usually enough for the face. I add a bit more for the neck, since skin there wants attention as well. The jar will easily last me several months with regular use (about 2-3 times a week).
The bergamot oil makes the mask smell very pleasant, but if you aren’t into scents - this one is very mild and evaporates quickly, so it shouldn’t bother sensitive noses. The feel on the skin could be a tad bit sticky at first, but that goes away as the product is absorbed. By morning, I’m left with plump, hydrated skin that’s very smooth to the touch.
