Aritaum Ginger Sugar Lip Scrub Review

Updated: Oct 27, 2020

In the last six months or so I’ve been more into decorative lip products (some studies show that people pay more attention to what you say if your lips are painted, and I need people to pay attention haha) and it’s incredibly important to have a good base for lip makeup in the form of healthy, hydrated lips.

I’ve written about hydration before (loving this lip oil and this lip mask), but what about exfoliation? I decided to try the Aritaum Ginger Sugar Lip Scrub. It’s available on* eBay and Amazon.

The product comes in a cute small twist top jar and has the consistency of thick ointment. The specs of brown sugar and walnuts are visible in the murky white “balm”. I love the smell of ginger and sugar.

How to use:

  1. Apply to clean, moistened lips

  2. Massage lightly (don’t get crazy here!)

  3. Rinse off with water

The effect is three-in-one: exfoliation, nourishment and the formation of a thin protective barrier to keep your lips in top shape longer. I like to use this in the evening and then, a few hours later, apply the Laneige sleeping mask for even more nourishment.

I like the diverse range of nourishing and lip loving ingredients, including: olive oil, jojoba oil, shea butter, walnut shell powder (for exfoliation), orange and lemon peel oil, and ginger root oil.

My impressions:

This is a good, effective product that got my lips looking healthy. I used to mostly hydrate and moisturize without exfoliation, but just like with skin, simply layering products over dead cells isn’t going to provide good results. The jar is small but I only need a bit of the scrub to treat the lips, so it’s lasting me well. I also like that it leaves the lips with a protective barrier, like lip balm, so if you don’t want to use any other products afterwards, you don’t have to. Of course, that also means that this scrub is best for the evenings or when you don’t plan to wear decorative makeup immediately after. The brand makes a lip sleeping mask in the same line, which I plan on eventually trying.
