This was an impulse buy. When I got the package in the mail and held the giant 350ml (almost 12oz) emulsion bottle, my first thought was “I guess I better like it!”. I have combination skin with an oily t-zone and dry-to-normal cheeks.
If you are new to Korean skincare, then the term “emulsion” might puzzle you. Korean manufacturers often refer to lotions as emulsion. Emulsions/lotions are applied after serums and before cream, although for some people cream isn’t needed.
This Farm Stay line of emulsions has four “flavors”:
Pomegranate moisture - for moisture and elasticity
Snail moisture - for moisture and healing
Aloe fresh - for moisture and to soothe
Milk white - for elasticity and brightness
I chose pomegranate, because I have had aloe and snail products before (not from this brand) but never anything with pomegranate. The emulsions are available on eBay.
Active Ingredients:
Pomegranate extract - rich in vitamin C, antioxidants and flavonoids that delay the signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles
Centella asiatica extract - an amazing healing herb that soothes inflammation and heals blemishes
Rosemary and chamomile extracts - soothe and moisturize the skin
Aloe leaf extract - soothes and hydrates
A note about cetyl alcohol in the ingredients. I have noticed a tendency in the amateur skincare circles (and I'm by no means a professional myself) to automatically write off all alcohols as bad. But, in fact, alcohols are not all the same. Cetyl alcohol is one of the fatty alcohols, which are not irritating and are beneficial to the skin, especially dry skin. They also make products pleasant in texture and help stabilize ingredients.
How to use:
Cleanse and use toner
Apply essences, serums and ampoules (depending on your routine)
Use emulsion
Use cream or a night mask and SPF (if applicable)
This emulsion is a liquid, milky substance with a pleasant scent. It absorbs quickly without a sticky residue.
My impressions:
Well, in short, I liked it (thank goodness, it’s a HUGE bottle). It’s pretty much perfect for my skin - moisturizing but light, not greasy and not sticky, amazing for summer. The smell is light and pleasant. The bottle has a simple screw cap (which is very typical for Korean lotions), but I would have preferred a pump. Thankfully, since the lotion is liquid, it’s easy to pour out into the palm (no shaking/squeezing required). I use it morning and night. Right now, I follow it with cream most of the time, but as the summer gets even hotter (ew), I will probably drop the cream step in my morning routine. Oh, and another awesome thing - this product is very budget friendly and is available on eBay.
