A while back, I was talking to one of my content creator buddies and asked her what her favorite PR was. Her answer came very fast - 107! Until that point, I'd never heard of them, but of course I had to try something. That was the start of my own love story with this brand. Now, over a year later, the romance is only getting stronger.
This month, I’ve been trying 107 Rice Bran Low pH Soap, available on their official website and Amazon. This is a gentle cleanser featuring rice bran, oat grains, and 3-year aged artemisia vinegar. If you aren’t familiar with 107, using specialty aged vinegar is their claim to fame. They even sell edible (and delicious) vinegars. This isn’t a harsh white vinegar that stars in questionable DIY TikToks - it’s very gentle and carefully formulated into their cosmetics to benefit the skin. The soap promises to cleanse, moisturize, and soften with every wash.
How to use
Wet and lather using hands or a loofah
Gently massage over areas in need of cleansing
Rinse
I’ve used this on both the face and body. 107 rice soap has a very mild scent that doesn’t feel artificial (more on that later). It is only noticeable while foaming and disappears immediately once the soap is rinsed off the skin.
My impressions
While I’m a huge fan of 107 products and actively tried to join their Ambassador program (and finally succeeded!), I wasn’t particularly excited about this bar soap. Most of the time, bar soaps leave a lot to be desired. A lot of points can be made about sustainability, lower shipping weight (compared to cleansers that contain water), etc, but for me skincare must be joyful too. However, 107 Rice Bran Low pH Soap quickly became a favorite. I’ve only had it for a couple of weeks but have used it in some way every night.
I’m saving the mini version for travel and using the big one for both the face and body. The mesh pouch feels great on the skin for a gentle exfoliation of the arms and legs. To wash the face, I create a soft lather in my hands and then gently massage over the skin.
The scent deserves a special mention and is one of the reasons I love this so much. Despite having lavender in the ingredients, the rice soap doesn’t smell like lavender to me. Instead, it has a comforting, natural scent that makes me think of rising bread and happiness. And no, this doesn’t smell yeasty or bready. I definitely don’t have a future in reviewing scents, because I’m struggling so much here. I guess you’ll just have to smell it for yourself if you truly want to know what it’s like.
107 Rice Bran Low pH Soap works well as an evening second cleanser (after a cleansing oil) without drying out the skin. It is probably absolutely perfect as a morning wash on its own, but I don’t wash my face in the mornings.
I also like it for the body, however it doesn’t take off post-workout “stank” well. It’s just fine on non-sweaty days, but if I had a lifting session before the bath / shower, then I need a more robust cleanser. This is completely fine and nowhere near a deal breaker, because being a hardcore body wash isn’t the purpose of this product.
Overall, I think this is the best bar soap I have ever tried. I don’t even want to call it “soap”, because the word comes with a certain connotation of harness and lack of excitement. This is luxurious without being pretentious. I want this to be a part of my cleanser rotation forever.
